Study: Nearly seven percent of American women say their first sexual encounter was forced

A high number of women in the United States claim that their first sexual encounter was forced, according to a new study.

One in 16 women claim that their first experience with sexual intercourse was “forced or coerced” during their early teenage years. The authors of the study that discovered say these experiences amount to rape.

Nearly half of the women who responded that way said they were forcibly restrained during the encounter; more than half say they were verbally pressured to engage in intercourse.
