Black girl who accused white classmates of cutting her hair in hate attack now says it was a hoax

The black girl who accused three white classmates of cutting off her dreadlocks earlier in September has since come forward saying the alleged attack was a hoax.

Amari Allen, 12, accused three boys of pinning her down and cutting off her dreadlocks in an attack at Immanuel Christian School. The story caught national attention not only for the attack, but because Karen Pence — Vice President Mike Pence’s wife — works at the Springfield, Virginia, middle school.

“They said my hair was nappy and I was ugly,” Allen told NBC Washington.

The school has since said that Allen admitted to making up the attack.

“We can now confirm that the student who accused three of her classmates of assault has acknowledged that the allegations were false. We’re grateful to the Fairfax County Police Department for their diligent work to investigate these allegations,” said Stephen Danis, the principal at Immanuel, said in a note to parents, according to the Washington Post.
