Twenty-five Malian soldiers were killed and more than 60 are still missing after an attack was carried out on a base in the West African country. The attack reportedly was committed by an Islamic jihadist group.
The attack, which took place at two military bases on the Burkina Faso border, began on Monday and lasted into Tuesday.
The jihadist group, Ansarul al-Islam, is active in both countries. They have been responsible for numerous attacks there since their founding in 2016.
Burkina Faso has struggled with violent Islamic terrorism for years. Christians in particular have been targeted by the violent groups.
