Religious liberty group offers to defend judge for giving convicted murderer Amber Guyger a Bible

Texas religious liberty advocate First Liberty Institute came to the defense of a judge who hugged a convicted murderer and handed her a Bible in court after sentencing her to ten years in prison.

Judge Tammy Kemp embraced Amber Guyger shortly after Guyger had been sentenced to ten years for the killing of Botham Jean. Kemp also gave Guyger a Bible.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation filed a complaint with the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct, claiming Kemp’s gifting of the Bible constituted “inappropriate” behavior from a judge. The First Liberty Institute, however, said it would “gladly lead the charge in defending her noble and legal actions.”

“FFRF is protesting Judge Kemp rather than joining the rest of the nation celebrating the compassion and mercy Judge Kemp demonstrated,” said Hiram Sasser, General Counsel to the First Liberty Institute, in a tweet.
