The governor of Tennessee recently declared October 10 to be a “day of prayer, humility, and fasting” for the state, an observance in which state citizens are also urged to ask for forgiveness for the state’s past sins.

The declaration, made by Gov. Bill Lee on Twitter, described the observance as a “voluntary” one. In the proclamation, the governor acknowledged the state’s “rich blessings, our deep transgressions, and our past challenges.”
