Turkey’s government announced that its military, along with Syria rebel forces, will be advancing into Syria “shortly,” warning Kurdish fighters not to get in its way.
Turkish government spokesperson Fahrettin Altun tweeted the threat Tuesday evening:
The tweet comes after reports that Turkey bombed routes on the Syria-Iraq border to stop Kurdish forces from adding reinforcements in the area.
🔦 The announcement follows President Trump’s surprise decision to pull U.S. troops out of northeast Syria ahead of the planned invasion. The move has garnered widespread condemnation from GOP lawmakers, who see it as an act of betrayal and abandonment against the Kurdish forces who were key allies in helping the U.S. defeat ISIS in the area.
