Florida officers personally pay for desperate homeless family’s flight home to Michigan

A Miami-Dade police officer went beyond the call of duty after he ran into a family with no money, food, or tickets back home.

Officer Jose DeLeon was working at a Miami Greyhound station near the airport when he ran across a man, his wife, and their four children. The family had been kicked out of their South Florida relative’s home and did not have food, money, or tickets to get back home to Michigan.

DeLeon, along with several other officers, raised the money from their personal funds and gave it to the mother. β€œShe started to cry, the father started to cry, and we even started to cry, and were just happy to be able to do that for them,” DeLeon said.

The officers also were able to get the family to the Chapman Project Homeless Center, which arranged plane tickets for the family to return to Michigan.
