A sixth-grade girl at a Kansas middle school was dragged out of her school in handcuffs and charged with a felony after making a “finger gun” hand gesture.
The girl, 12, made the gesture during a discussion in which she was asked which of her classmates she would kill if she were permitted to do so. A school resource officer recommended that the school call the police, after which the girl was charged with “unlawfully and feloniously communicat[ing] a threat to commit violence,” according to court records.
She is facing up to a year in a juvenile detention center and has since moved to California, according to news reports.
In a statement, the local police department stressed “constant vigilance” in keeping local schools safe.
