Nike stores in Beijing, Shanghai scrap Houston Rockets products after manager tweets support for Hong Kong protests

Nike stores across Beijing and Shanghai have removed Houston Rockets products from their shelves.

The move comes after team manager Daryl Morey tweeted his support for the anti-government protests in Hong Kong. Morey has since apologized for the tweet, but is still finding support from NBA commissioner Adam Silver, who said the NBA supports Morey’s freedom of expression.

The NBA’s business in China is reportedly worth more than $4 billion. China is Nike’s top source of revenue growth.

🔦 Other public figures are finding their support for the anti-government protests to be problematic, including Chung “Blitzchung” Ng Wai, who earlier this week was removed from the “Grandmasters” tournament for the video game Hearthstone after making a statement in support of the Hong Kong protests.
