Kanye West declares “I recently got saved,” reads Scripture and preaches at album listening event

Kanye West declared at a Saturday listening party for his new album that he “recently got saved” and is “here to spread the gospel.” He also read many Bible verses to the Washington, D.C. crowd and preached in between songs.

Reading a verse from Scripture, he said, “Philippians 2 — excuse me if I mispronounce anything, I’m a recent convert. That means I recently got saved within this year.”

West also tells about how his focus has shifted to God from material things, saying he formerly “worshiped the idea of labels, brand names; I worshiped cars, I worshiped the city I grew up in.”

Preaching about faith and repentance, West said, “Imagine someone sending their only son — they ain’t have ten sons, their only son — to die for you!”

A sampling of songs on the video clip also showcase heavy Christian themes in the lyrics on West’s forthcoming album “Jesus is King.”

🔦 West has been partaking in weekly Bible studies with his pastor and announced that he will no longer make secular music. His wife, Kim Kardashian West, and their children recently got baptized.
