Hong Kong protesters trample, burn LeBron jerseys

Pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong have responded aggressively to LeBron James’ recent comments which seemed to indicate that he sides with China over them in their recent uprising. Protesters were seen trampling and burning jerseys bearing the basketball star’s name, as well as putting a picture of James’ face on the backboard of a basketball hoop so the ball would hit it.

The basketball star came sparked outrage after he appeared to side with China’s communist regime in a recent statement regarding a Houston Rockets exec’s pro-Hong Kong tweet:

“Yes, we do all have freedom of speech, but at times there are ramifications for the negative that can happen when you’re not thinking about others and you’re only thinking about yourself. I don’t want to get into a… feud with Daryl Morey. But I believe he wasn’t educated on the situation at hand and he spoke. So many people could have been harmed, not only financially, but physically, emotionally, spiritually. So, just be careful what we tweet, what we say, and what we do, even though, yes, we do have freedom of speech. There can be a lot of negative that comes with that too.”
