Argentina startup hopes to help crop development with “super bees”

Beeflow, an Argentinian startup company, has developed a nutrient-packed formula for bees to improve their immune system in an attempt to boost declining bee populations.

The formula is said to equip bees with enough strength to complete seven times more flights in cold temperatures than they would without the formula.

Beeflow CEO Matias Viel hopes that this formula will result in greater crop pollination:

“If you have bad weather, or cold temperatures during that period, and you have a low amount of bee activity hours, your crop won’t be that good,” Viel said. “We think that with healthier bees and then with a stronger immune system, bees can work better and perform better.”

🔦 Bee populations have been on the decline which, given their role in pollination, puts crops at risk. Bees contribute $20 billion in crop development annually and are responsible for pollinating one-third of crops worldwide.
