A harrowing account from inside China’s reeducation camps

A woman who escaped from a Chinese reeducation camp has opened up about her experiences there in an interview with Haaretz.

Sayragul Sauytbay told the news website about being kidnapped into one of the camps, where she was “forbidden to speak with the prisoners, forbidden to laugh, forbidden to cry, and forbidden to answer questions from anyone. “

Sauytbay tells of more horrendous details, such as overcrowded prison rooms in which prisoners had one bucket to use as a toilet and a requirement that inmates sleep on their right sides or be punished. Women and men were also routinely tortured, gang-raped, and injected with unspecified liquids as medical experiments.
