Nearly 1,000 medical professionals in Northern Ireland vow not to perform abortions after legalization

A physician in Northern Ireland has gathered the signatures of nearly 1,000 health care professionals who have vowed not to perform abortions now that the procedure is legal in the region.

Dr. Andrew Cupples sent a letter to the Northern Ireland Secretary signed by him and 911 other medical professionals stating that they refuse to perform or assist in performing abortions. Cupples said that they would leave their jobs if their superiors attempted to force them to participate, according to The Independent.

Those who signed the letter include doctors, midwives, and nurses.
